International Golden Rule Day is all about the following universal principle “Treat others and the earth as you would like to be treated,” and is shared by many cultures and religions worldwide.
April 5, 2024 – Golden Rule Day & International Day of Conscience
“The task of constructing a culture of peace requires comprehensive educational, cultural, social and civic action, in which each person has something to learn and something to give and share”. On April 5, 2018, the United Nations General Assembly voted on the resolution Promoting the Culture of Peace with Love and Conscience from which this passage is quoted.
In this spirit, the Arizona Interfaith Movement’s mission is to promote Golden Rule education translated into action.
It is not coincidental that April 5 is also International Golden Rule Day. We are called upon to “love thy neighbor”. Perhaps, this is easier understood as to offer compassion to everyone regardless of individual circumstances.
While war, violence, hate, enmity, poverty, and misery surround us, our conscience is called to reflect on what we could do to alleviate human suffering and contribute to a peaceful society.
I invite all Arizonans to do their part. Let us not heed the call to fear, enmity, and violence. Some of our influential leaders and organizations encourage discrimination, scapegoating and bullying. Instead, we must offer peace and respect towards everyone.
We experienced that the global pandemic is beyond borders or boundaries. Regardless of race, nationality, religion, ethnicity, or gender we are all affected. In spite of the seemingly difficult challenges, we are called upon to work together, promote human rights, care for the environment, and attend to the common good.
