Today is Golden Rule Day!!

Today is April 5th and it is International Golden Rule Day!

Most of you are familiar with the “Do to others as you would have them do to you”; in Hinduism it is expressed as “Do not do to others what would cause pain to you’; and in Islam, “Not one of you truly believes until you wish for others what you wish for yourself.” And so it goes in the various faith traditions as reproduced in our picture. (click “picture” to see it.)

You may also add to your Golden Rule sayings:

“Do for all others, both directly and indirectly, what you would want done for you.”

And, “Don’t do to any others, either directly or indirectly, what you wouldn’t want done to you.”

Paraphrasing the Golden Rule the Charter of Compassion is proposing the Green Rule – “Do unto the Earth as you would have it do unto you” as we extend the plea for compassion to include all of our concerns – our neighbors, all human beings, animals, birds, trees and the earth and our divine oneness with everything.

In the spirit of the Golden Rule and Earth Day, I am inviting you to join us at the Faith Forum on the Environment on April 27, Thursday at 7pm, at Beatitudes Campus, 1610 W Glendale Ave, Phoenix, AZ 85021. To register for the event, see: tinyurl.com/AZIFMFaithForum
