The members of Arizona Interfaith Movement are both saddened and appalled by violence and fear that it has engendered in the Muslim community in our neighboring state of New Mexico. We applaud the recent success of law enforcement authorities achieved with the cooperation of the community. They are making progress in identifying the potential suspect(s); and, these actions have contributed to calm the community.
The Arizona Interfaith Movement invokes the Golden Rule, which in its Islamic version reads, “No one of you is a believer until you desire for another that which you desire for yourself.” (Hadith) Because we desire peace in all communities, we deplore violence perpetrated by anyone against anybody.”
